In this painting, U.S. Marshals are transporting a prisoner from an outlying jail in the Indian Territories to Fort Smith. He will be tried for his crimes by Judge Parker, known as "The Hanging Judge". While en route, they have to remain alert to the outside dangers of Indians, bandits and friends of the defendant who may want to rescue him before they arrive in Fort Smith.
