Mike Nelson, born in 1945 in Sacramento, California, continues to reside there with his Valerie, (a native of Kauai, Hawaii).

Mike originally aspired to an art career but instead spent four years in the military during the 1960s, followed by service with the Sacramento Police Department and later the U.S. Marshals Service. After a line-of-duty injury, he transitioned to the Marshals, where he worked for thirty years and retired as a decorated Chief Deputy in 1999. During his law enforcement career, Mike studied oil painting under Gary Langdon and created artwork for the U.S. Marshals Service, including a piece commemorating its 1989 Bicentennial that is displayed at headquarters. His limited-edition prints are recognized symbols at Marshal offices nationwide.

Yet throughout his distinguished tenure in law enforcement, Mike’s passion for art remained undimmed, quietly threading its way through the chapters of his life. Evenings and weekends found him sketching out visions inspired by the California landscape and the rugged beauty of Kauai, seeking solace and creative renewal after long days of service.
