What is a Giclee?

The French word Giclee (zhee-klay) means a spray or spurt of liquid.

The term “Giclee print” provides an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality ink onto canvas, fine art, and photo-base paper. The Giclee printing process provides better color accuracy and longevity than other means of reproduction such at lithography.

Giclee prints offered by Nelson Fine Arts are created by utilizing the highest resolution digital printers available today, the Epson 9800/7800 series using the K3 Ultrachrome inkset. This modern printer is capable of producing incredibly detailed prints for both fine art and photographic markets by spraying four million droplets of ink per second, in varying thicknesses called “stochastic screening”. These miniscule, random dots create higher image detail and allow greater ink densities to improve tonal range and contrast.
