In this painting, U.S. Marshals are transporting a prisoner from outlying jail in the Indian Territories to Fort Smith, Arkansas. He will be tried for his crimes by Judge Parker, the “Hanging Judge”. While enroute, they must remain alert to outside dangers from Indians, bandits and friends of the defendant who may want to rescue him.
